How does it work?
As many frequent travelers would agree, ITA matrix (https://matrix.itasoftware.com) is one of the best flight search tools out there. Bright Flights saves ITA Matrix users time and effort by enabling you to combine a number of repetitive manual searches for different departure airports into a single search. As many users will know, although ITA matrix allows you to search up to 5 departure airports at the same time, those airports have to be in the same country. This tool looks for flights across all international airports in your region with one search.
For example, let’s say you’re looking to fly from London to New York (with LON, LHR and LGW being the obvious first departure airport searches you’d do on ITA Matrix). As a frequent flyer, you probably know that often significantly cheaper deals can be had by starting your trip from an ‘EX EU’ airport, for example AMS, CPH, HEL, OSL, MXP, etc. But to search all the possible departure airports (and figuring out the connecting flights to those airports) is time consuming as you would need to do searches country by country on ITA Matrix. Bright Flights does all these searches for you automatically in one go and gives you the summary results in one easy to read table. And for British Airways Executive Club members, you will also see how many tier points and Avios you are likely to earn from the flight (if the flight is operated by One World Alliance members). Currently Bright Flights tool works for all international airports in Europe and North America.
If departing from Europe, the following 33 international departure airports are searched: LHR, CDG, AMS, FRA, IST, MAD, LGW, MUC, FCO, ORY, DUB, ZRH ,CPH, MAN, OSL, ARN, STN, BRU, DUS, VIE, MXP, ATH, TXL, HEL. HAM, GVA, WAW, PRQ, EDI, BUD, BHX, VCE, LCY
If departing from North America, the following 26 international departure airports are searched: JFK, LAX, MIA, ORD, SFO, EWR, ATL, IAH, DFW, IAD, BOS, FLL, MCO, HNL, SEA, PHL, LAS, DTW, CLT, YYZ, YVR, YUL, YYC, MEX, DEN, PHX
Once you’ve found flights that look interesting, you can then use the detailed flight information provided to book these flights on Google Flights or your other preferred flight booking sites like Momondo, Skyscanner, Kayak, etc.
The tool is especially valuable for premium economy, business class and first class flights as the ticket price differences can be significant (we often see £1,000+ savings on longhaul return business class flights for example).
We can’t of course guarantee that the cheapest options are always uncovered by using Bright Flights (as it relies on the results the tool is able to get from ITA Matrix) but in our experience the tool is a powerful addition to your searches and often finds great fares with minimal effort from you. Please sign up here and try it out for yourself.
You can try out the tool for free for 3 days. If you like it and would like to continue using it, there is a monthly fee of £3.99 (charged monthly and you can cancel at any time).
